Review of Monday night raw 7/11/11 Liverpool
Overall the show was ok, it did well for a pre taped show, because usually when the WWE comes to England they put 50% into the show because its taped and they can get away with it. We were promised multiple things the week before, which didn’t happen such as the Michael Cole challenge and Brodus Clay’s debute. There were a few matches which seemed a little pointless and just seemed to me like they were used to build up the hype around a wrestler and fill time. Apart from these matches the show did have some other parts which were entertaining for example, the back stage drama with CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio and the beginning where R Truth and the Miz called out Cena. But I did feel that the WWE didn’t put as much effort into this episode as they should, this is probably because they were thinking more about next weeks episode with the rocks return.
The beginning of the show had Cena come out and address the crowd and in true John Cena style the crowd were very against him.He tried to win over the crowd by talking about the Rocks absence which I found was too predictable. Then Cena got inturupted by Truth and Miz which then results in him getting beaten up by the both of them, which prompts Zack Ryder come out and help his Broski. I personally got the impression that its a bad move by the WWE to put Zack Ryder in main events with Cena because Ryder is extremely popular right now and I think it would be a bad idea for them to risk that by teaming him with Cena who always gets a lot of heat from the crowd.
When John Morrison came out to wrestle Dolf Ziggler, because he is on a loosing streak and there are rumours that he will be let go because of his dispute with Vince McMahon I didn’t think that he had a chance of winning. But when I was watching the match I slowly started to get into it more with Ziggler hitting some good jump kicks and Morrison managing to do an amazing hurricanrana. However, I thought that with the high standard of the match the ending was dissapointing with Morrison winning with a roll through and not his starship pain which we have not seen for a long long time (3 months).
The next match I new would be bad when I saw JTG enter the ring. From there it just went downhill. The match was just a beat down by Mason Ryan which was done only to make him look more powerful and give promo material.
I thought that the next match was ok, i’m not sure if Kofi Kingston is a good match with Alberto Del Rio. But the highlight of the match was when Alberto won but he wouldn’t break the cross arm breaker so CM Punk comes out and confronting Alberto. The confrontation ends with the two of them fighting but Alberto escapes which leaves Punk to deliver the GTS to Ricardo Rodrigues. I like the fact that Punk hasn’t done the GTS on Del Rio for a while because it builds up their match at Survivor Series even more.
The next two “matches” were more examples of how the show was let down. With the first being just another beat down by Jack Swagger on Santino which you would have missed if you blinked. The other was the so called Divas match which the WWE just used as promotional time to show off Kelly Kelly’s new Maxim cover. The fact that you can’t even buy Maxim in England I thought made it a waste of time on the show.
We had been promised that Kevin Nash would address the WWE universe the week before and I have to commend the WWE for actually keeping a promise which was made for this episode as they just forgot everything else that was said. However, all that Kevin Nash did was talk for about ten minutes, which was not entertaining due to his limited skills on the mike.
I felt that the main event was ok but because of my allegiance to the anti Cena nation and the fact that i’m a broski as well I felt insulted that the WWE put the two of them together. The other point about Zack Ryder is that he should not be in the main events because he is a comedy character which means that he is a solid mid card wrestler and not be headlining Monday night Raw. The highlight of the match I felt was the ending with Truth holding down Cenas leg to get a sneaky win which suited both characters well.
But I do think that the WWE has made this week particularly bad in order to make next weeks Monday night RAW look better for the Rocks return.

Is Zack Ryder being pushed too soon, Should He be in the main events of PPV’s and Monday Night Raw
Ever since Raw last Monday when we saw Zack Ryder team up with John Cena on RAW in the main event there has been a debate circling the internet. That debate is, is Zack Ryder being pushed too soon and should he be even considered for main events.
Six months ago if you told a wrestling fan that Zack Ryder would be appearing on main events on raw and even have a title shot for the USA title they would have thought that you were crazy. This was because six months ago Zack Ryder was barely holding onto his job on WWE superstars. This was because he hadn’t had even a remote push since the Edge heads, which was an ok gimmick to say the least.
But then Ryder created the Broski gimmick which honed his Long Island roots. Which was slightly well received by the crowd and got him a comfortable spot on WWE Superstars and some background roles on RAW.
But then the Ryder revolution started with his use of the social media such as youtube and twitter as he created the True Long Island Story, which got his name out there and slowly began turning the crowd.
Since then Ryder has just grown and grown and started getting regular spots on Monday Night RAW in mid-card fights, where most people say he belongs. This mid-card rein included a United States title shot against Dolf Ziggler.
However, recently Zack Ryder has been pushed to slightly above the mid-card including matched with CM Punk, John Cena and the Awesome Truth. This is where the debate began with many true wrestling fans, including the Broski’s saying that Ryder is being pushed too fast. The fact remains that Zack Ryder is a solid mid-card and comedy character and with his current gimmick it is likely that he will get a small title rein and maybe a tag team rein. If the WWE were to put him in the main event picture this would make the top seem like a bit of a joke.
Others think that Ryder could bring a spark to the main event picture, he has got wrestling talent so that wont hold him back and his comic character could make the main event and WWE championships fun.
My personal view is that Zack Ryders current gimmick has been good to get him out of the trap of WWE superstars and get him into the mid-card. With his current gimmick it wont be right for him to be in the main events so to get to the next level he will need a gimmick change. This has been done in the past because the Rock and Stone Cold both had bad gimmicks to start but then they changes and became huge.
